The DCUR Fund for Unanticipated Opportunities

Have you learned about an opportunity after the deadline for a DCUR grant competition has passed? DCUR may be able to offer limited financial support, if

  • this is an important opportunity for your academic or professional development,
  • you did not know about this opportunity before the deadline for the regular DCUR competition,
  • you have strong support from a Southern Miss faculty mentor,
  • you have one or more cost-sharing partners (on- or off-campus)

Eligible Opportunities

  • Presentation at a prestigious conference or participation in a prestigious competition
  • Attendance of a workshop or master class that will advance your own work
  • Realization of an invited exhibit, performance or choreography
  • Visits to collaborator(s) and other travel that is important for your scholarly work

Funds are limited and available on a first-come/first-served basis. DCUR will not consider requests from students

  • who could have applied for financial support through a regular DCUR program
  • who did apply previously but whose proposal was not selected for funding

How can you apply for this fund?

Fill out the Unanticipated Opportunities Grant Application and email it to Dr.%20Sabine%20Heinhorst.

Arrange for your mentor to send an email to sabine.heinhorstFREEMississippi that expresses strong support for your request and explains the benefits of the unanticipated opportunity for your academic and/or professional development. To consider your request for funding and provide a timely response, we must receive your mentor’s email within two days after we receive your request.

Once you have used your grant, you will need to submit an Unanticipated Opportunities Final Report.

Application deadline: Continuous.
