Health Sciences

The health sciences program offers foundational courses for nursing as well as more general preparation for entry level careers in a variety of healthcare settings. Students who plan to apply to the Baccalaureate Program in Nursing are encouraged to begin their degree path in health sciences and complete their prerequisites before applying for admission to the program in nursing.

What Will I Learn?

Courses in the liberal arts and humanities, the sciences, and the major area of study prepare the student to function as an engaged citizen and to effectively practice in careers that provide support in health-related fields. The growing healthcare industry includes an array of jobs outside of nursing practice, and this degree provides students with foundational knowledge for employment in that sector.

Students in the Health Sciences (Health Care Studies) program are required to select two minor areas of study from the following list: Education of the Deaf, Speech Pathology and Audiology, Public Health, Health Policy and Administration, Child Advocacy Studies, Child and Family Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Spanish, Business Administration, Management, Biology, and Chemistry.

Faculty from several different disciplines teach in this program

Faculty teaching in this program include a wide variety of disciplines such as nursing, public health, psychology, and biological sciences as well as others depending on the student-chosen emphasis. This exposure to various disciplines allow students to be prepared broadly for a interdisciplinary career in a variety of healthcare settings.
